Normandy from Paris: Day Trip or Overnight?

Normandy is roughly 3 hours from Paris by car or train, making it technically possible as a day trip — but we strongly recommend staying overnight.

Getting There

By car, take the A13 motorway from Paris. The drive to Caen takes about 2.5 hours, while the D-Day beaches are about 3.5 hours. Alternatively, trains from Gare Saint-Lazare reach Caen in under 2 hours.

Day Trip vs Overnight

A day trip from Paris limits you to one or two sites. An overnight stay lets you experience the region properly — the evening light on the beaches, a seafood dinner in Honfleur, and the morning quiet at the American Cemetery.
